The Sermon on the Mount

Practice Focused Prayer

Look

Spend some time looking at the picture above.

1. What does it make you think of?

2. What does prayer mean to you?

3. How do you talk to God?

Watch

Choose one of these two videos to watch.

AS you watch, draw a picture or write about something that stands out to you in the video that you want to remember. What does this teach you about prayer?

Read

Read Matthew 6.9-13 below:

“So this is how you should pray:

‘Our Father in heaven,
we pray that your name will always be kept holy.
We pray that your kingdom will come—
that what you want will be done here on earth, the same as in heaven.
Give us the food we need for today.
 Forgive our sins,
just as we have forgiven those who did wrong to us.
 Don’t let us be tempted,
but save us from the Evil One’.”

Think

Write down your thoughts or discuss with a parent the following:

1. What stands out to you about this prayer?

2. What are the key words?

3. What should be ‘kept  holy’? – what do you think this means?

4. What do you think God’s kingdom is like?

Create and Pray

Write out a prayer to God …

Speak from you heart and take a moment to listen to what he might be saying to you. Write down what you hear God say to you.

Read over this prayer this week to help remind yourself that God is always listening and talking to us in the same way that we can listen and talk to him.
